In response to the ongoing Reddit API pricing change controversy and its impact on the tech world, BetUS.com, the original online sportsbook marking its 30th season this year, has introduced an innovative betting market focused on the possible outcomes of this unfolding situation. Yes, you can now bet on how the Reddit drama will play out.
Betting markets, also known as prediction markets, have been used to forecast outcomes in various domains, including politics, finance, and even technology. They can be quite accurate in their predictions as they pool the wisdom of the crowd, which often can be surprisingly insightful.
"BetUS has always been at the forefront of offering unique and engaging betting options to our users. The Reddit API situation is an excellent example of real-world events shaping the betting landscape," says Tim Williams, Director of Public Affairs for BetUS. “We believe that this situation, while complex, presents a unique opportunity for both seasoned and casual bettors to engage in the narrative in a new and intriguing way. To that end, we have introduced a novel betting market that focuses on the possible outcomes of Reddit's current predicament. It’s the intersection of tech culture and sportsbook culture.”
Interestingly, the market at BetUS.com suggests a slight leaning towards Reddit reversing course on its API changes before June 30th, 2023. The odds for this are set at -130, which equates to 13/10 in fractional odds and an implied probability of approximately 57%.
Despite that, BetUS.com odds nonetheless indicate a strong possibility of the Apollo App shutting down by the end of June 2023, as its developers have indicated, with odds set at -200 (1/2 fractional, 66.67% implied probability).
Finally, while some have questioned the future of Steve Huffman as Reddit's CEO, BetUS odds suggest that he is likely to remain in his position through the end of 2023, with odds set at -260 (5/13 fractional, 72.22% implied probability).
Note: These odds are subject to change as more information becomes available and as betting action comes in. The latest odds can always be found here.
