Donald Trump remains the favorite to win the 2024 Presidential Election, despite the recent FBI raid on his Mar-a-Lago home on Monday, according to oddsmakers at online sportsbook, BetUS.com.
The extraordinary raid against the home of a former president would seem to signal a major escalation by the Justice Department, and did force BetUS oddsmakers to adjust his betting odds to win the 2024 election down a notch, from +275 to +225 (odds expressed with a ‘+’ signify how much a bettor would profit on a $100 bet, in this case $225 net profit + plus $100 initial stake means the sportsbook would pay out $325).
Still, Trump’s odds of returning to the White House are better than the odds of Joe Biden being re-elected, with BetUS oddsmakers listing Joe Biden’s odds of winning the 2024 election at +375, meaning a $100 bet would pay out $475.
Florida governor Ron DeSantis and current Vice President, Kamala Harris are currently tied in third place in the betting odds, at +700, both of which would return $800 on a $100 bet.
“Betting odds have proven to be an uncanny predictor of election results,” says Barry Barger, a senior betting analyst at BetUS. “Oddsmakers set the starting odds, but the odds are constantly adjusted to reduce risk to the sportsbook by balancing the bets placed amongst the various candidates,” Barger explains. “ If someone puts money on a candidate to win, it is pretty safe to assume that is the candidate they are going to vote for, as well. And as it stands, the money is on a Trump return to the White House. It’s really an amazing way of polling.”
