As the San Francisco 49ers and New York Giants prepare to face off today on Thursday Night Football, the betting scene is teeming with anticipation. Week 3 kickoff from Levi's Stadium is scheduled for 8:15 p.m. ET. A study in contrasts, the 49ers enter the game boasting two consecutive victories, while the Giants have endured a rollercoaster ride, being shut out 0-40 in a humiliating loss in their season opener and making a historic comeback to win 31-28 in their second game after trailing 0-20 at halftime against the Arizona Cardinals.
At the epicenter of the Giants' triumphant comeback was their quarterback extraordinaire, Daniel Jones. In the second half of their last game against the Cardinals, Jones etched his name into the annals of NFL history by becoming the first quarterback ever to achieve the extraordinary feat of throwing for over 250 yards, rushing for more than 50 yards, launching multiple touchdown passes, rushing for an additional touchdown, and committing zero turnovers. This remarkable display underscores Jones's game-changing abilities and positions him as a formidable factor against the 49ers.
At BetUS.com, the original online sportsbook marking its 30th NFL season this year, there is a tremendous amount of excitement – and even some anxiety – surrounding tonight’s game. “This is one of the most lop-sided games I’ve seen recently in terms of betting action,” says Tim Williams, director of public affairs for BetUS.
At BetUS, the latest Giants vs. 49ers odds favor San Francisco by –10½ points, with an over/under of 44 points for the total score. Check the latest odds here.
Despite Giants GQ, Daniel Jones’ record-setting performance in Week 2, BetUS customers seem to believe he and his team have little chance against the 49ers. The company is reporting an extraordinary amount of the betting action for Thursday’s game is backing the 49ers. In fact, more than 80% of the total bets and more than 73% of the total dollar volume that has been bet on the point spread so far has been bet backing the 49ers.
The same holds true for the moneyline (or outright winner), where despite the 4-to-1 (+430) payout being offered for bets on the Giants, customer are nonetheless putting their money behind the 49ers, with 71.24% of bets and 84.48% of the dollar volume bet on the moneyline favoring the 49ers, despite the fact one would currently have to risk $575 just to win $100 taking that bet.
“This just underscores how confident our customers are in the 49ers in this matchup. You rarely see such lopsided action on an NFL game, particularly on both the spread and the moneyline. Betting the 49ers on the moneyline is super expensive – meaning you have to risk more than six times what you hope to win at current odds – yet our customers are doing it anyway. That shows just how confident our customers are in a 49ers victory tonight,” says Tim Williams, director of public affairs for BetUS. “If the Giants could just cover the spread here and not lose by more than 10 points – it would be a great day for the book. If they pulled out a surprise win, it would be an even better day for the book. But when our customers show this degree of consensus, they’re not usually wrong.”
Williams notes that bettors are also expecting a relatively high scoring game, with 62.22% of bets and 68.23% of the dollar volume bet on the point total having been bet on the ‘over’, currently set at 44 points.
