Following last year's thwarted appearance to defend his 2021 title after declining to comply with Australia's COVID-19 vaccination requirements, Novak Djokovic is finally back in Melbourne Park and hoping to become champion for the tenth time.
Djokovic is the 10/11 betting favorite in the latest 2023 Australian Open Men Outright odds at BetUS Sportsbook. Daniil Medvedev has the second-best odds at 9/4, followed by Danish Holger Rune 7/1, Stefanos Tsitsipas at 10/1 and Italian Jannik Sinner at 12/1.
The men's draw is packed with intriguing talent, other notables include Canadian Felix Auger Aliassime at 14/1 and Frances Tiafoe at 40/1 to win the first Grand Slam title of the year.
With Rafael Nadal's early elimination due to injury, plus the absence from the start of the tournament's spoiled kid Australian Nick Kyrgios and world number one ranked Carlos Alcaraz, the odds that Novak will win his 22nd Grand Slam title are high.
“Nole just got an easy path to win this tournament and tie Nadal for the all-time Grand Slam titles with 22 after this one,” says Barry Barger, senior betting analyst at BetUS. “Djokovic is as solid as a rock; he did not lose a set in his first-round win while most of his stronger contenders are out of the picture. Also, Djokovic tied number 1 Carlos Alcaraz in 2022 making the most finals on the tour with seven, winning five of them."
According to a report released today but BetUS, 55,24% of the bets and 79% of the dollar volume have been bet on the Serbian player. “That’s really impressive in a field of ten,” Barger notes.
The 2021 US Open winner, Russian Daniil Medvedev has attracted just 16.19% of the bets, followed by Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas with 12% and Felix Auger-Aliassime with 9.52%.
