Brock Purdy and the NFC West champion San Fransisco 49ers (10-4) host the Washington Commanders (7-6-1) and Taylor Heinicke in a Week 16 Christmas weekend matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for Saturday at 4:05 p.m. EST at Levi's Stadium.
Quarterbacks Heinicke and Purdy were not the first options for their teams; however, they have walked an unexpected path to become fundamental pieces on the field.
The 49ers are currently -7 ½ point favorites at BetUS sportsbook, and –340 favorites on the ‘money line’ or odds for the outright winner. BetUS customers can stake their bets on an endless variety of proposition (‘prop’) bets. One fan favorite is betting ‘over/under’ how many passing yards each quarterback will put on the board.
For instance, bettors can choose between Brock Purdy passing over or under 218 ½ yards or Taylor Heinicke passing over or under 199½ yards in the game (both options are currently set at –115) Customers can also bet on “Total touchdowns passes” and “Total interceptions”, also as ‘over/under’ style wagers.
Purdy threw for 217 yards with two touchdowns and zero interceptions, completing 65.4 percent of his passes during the 49er’s 21-13 win in Week 15 over the Seattle Seahawks, clenching the division title and a playoff spot. “That makes that over/under 218 ½ passing yards for Purdy against the Commander on Saturday a tough call,” says Barry Barger, a senior betting analyst for BetUS, who says quarterback props are some of the most popular prop bets amongst his company’s customers.
For his part, Heinicke’s threw for 249 yards with one touchdown and zero interceptions, completing almost 59% of passes against the Giants, despite a tough 20-12 loss. “On first glance, that would make the ‘over’ 199 ½ passing yards for Heinicke in this Christmas Eve showdown seem like a sure bet, but Heinicke will be up against a dominating ‘Niners defense,” Barger explains.
“That overbearing 49ers defense also explains why 54% of bets and an incredible 91% of the dollar volume bet on the total has been bet on the ‘under’ 39 ½ points,” Barger says, citing customer betting data released by BetUS on Thursday. “You don’t see volume numbers that lopsided very often and that screams ‘sharp’ (professional) action to me. I am all over the under – sticking with the wise money and would recommend others do the same,” Barger says.
On the points spread, 66.19% of the wagers placed and 63.27% of the dollar volume have been bet on the 49ers (currently -7 ½ favorites) according to the BetUS report.
